The Oriental Pearl Tower is a futurist television and observation tower in Lujiazui, Shanghai, rising 468 meters above the city. Designed by the East China Architectural Design & Research Institute and constructed from 1991 to 1994 using concrete and steel, the tower held the distinction of being China's tallest structure until the nearby World Financial Center's completion in 2007. Its distinctive spherical design features fifteen observation decks, making it a defining landmark of modern Shanghai and the city's first AAAAA-rated tourist attraction.
