Built around 1871 in Boone, Iowa, the Perrigo-Holmes House is a two-story frame structure in the high-style Italianate manner, commissioned by Joel C. Perrigo, a Vermont-born railroad employee and landowner. The L-shaped dwelling features paired brackets beneath its eaves and an interior-angled front porch characteristic of the period. The house later became the residence of Adoniram J. Holmes, a local attorney who served as mayor of Boone before his election to the United States House of Representatives as a Republican, representing Iowa's 10th congressional district, and subsequently as Sergeant at Arms of the House. A contemporary barn, one of the few surviving town barns in Boone, is also part of the historic listing. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
