PNC Park, home of Major League Baseball's Pittsburgh Pirates since 2001, sits along the Allegheny River on Pittsburgh's North Shore with commanding views of the downtown skyline. Designed by Populous and constructed in steel and limestone, the 38,747-seat stadium opened in the 2001 season after 24 months of construction at a cost of $216 million. Built in the "retro-classic" style inspired by historic venues like Forbes Field, it features a natural grass surface, a riverside concourse, extensive steel truss work, and an out-of-town scoreboard, while incorporating tributes to former Pirate Roberto Clemente. The ballpark's distinctive limestone façade and clear sightlines from every seat have earned it recognition as among America's finest stadiums. Beyond Pirates games, it has hosted the 2006 MLB All-Star Game and concerts.
