Acrisure Stadium, located in Pittsburgh's North Shore neighborhood along the Ohio River, opened in 2001 as Heinz Field and serves as the primary home of the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers and NCAA's Pittsburgh Panthers. Designed by Populous, the $281 million venue was conceived with the city's steel heritage in mind, incorporating 12,000 tons of steel into its structure. Following the controlled implosion of Three Rivers Stadium, the new facility broke ground in June 1999 and hosted its first football game in September 2001. The 68,400-seat stadium features a natural-grass surface that has remained a point of contention but has been preserved following player and coach advocacy. The venue has maintained a sellout streak for Steelers home games dating to 1972 and has hosted notable events beyond football, including the 2011 NHL Winter Classic and 2017 NHL Stadium Series games, as well as concerts; Taylor Swift's Eras Tour performance in June 2023 drew 73,117 attendees, the highest-ticketed event in Pittsburgh history. The stadium was renamed Acrisure in 2022 after Kraft Heinz declined to renew naming rights.
