The Red Road Flats were a mid-twentieth-century brutalist housing complex in northeast Glasgow, built in 1968 between the districts of Balornock and Barmulloch. The estate comprised eight steel-frame blocks of two types: two wider "slabs" with 28 floors and six traditional "point" towers rising to 31 floors and 89 metres—among Glasgow's tallest buildings at the time, holding records for the highest inhabitable floor and floor count in the city. Designed to house 4,700 residents, the blocks commanded panoramic views across the Campsie Fells, Ben Lomond, and on clear days stretched to Edinburgh. The uppermost floors served as communal drying areas. Once among Glasgow's most prominent highrise housing developments of the 1960s, the complex entered decline and was formally condemned in 2008, with full demolition completed by 2015.
