In San Francisco's South of Market district near the Financial District, the Transbay development represents a major urban redevelopment anchored by the Salesforce Transit Center, which replaced the demolished original San Francisco Transbay Terminal. The project, designed by César Pelli, includes new skyscrapers such as Salesforce Tower, constructed under height allowances granted through the San Francisco Transit Center District Plan. Financing for the transit center was facilitated by the sale of state-owned land parcels transferred to the Transbay Joint Powers Authority, the managing entity overseeing the comprehensive neighborhood transformation.
