Built in 1936–1937 in Shelbyville, Indiana, the Shelby County Courthouse is a two- to three-story Art Deco limestone structure funded in part by the Public Works Administration. The rectangular building's defining features include a recessed five-bay central section framed by two-story fluted Doric pilasters and ornamented with bas-relief panels—hallmarks of the streamlined modernism popular during the Depression era. A contributing 1931 Civil War soldier statue stands on the grounds. The courthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.
