Skatteskrapan, a 26-storey, 86-metre tower in Stockholm's Södermalm district, was designed by architect Paul Hedqvist and completed in 1959 as headquarters for the Swedish National Tax Board—the source of its nickname, "The Tax Scraper." Initially standing at 81 metres with 25 floors, it was Sweden's tallest building until 1964. The structure served its original administrative purpose until 2003, when it underwent internal conversion into student housing. Rebuilt by Skanska and now rebranded as Skrapan, the complex contains 415 student apartments alongside office and conference spaces, with an additional seven-storey annexe providing 61 student apartments and 19 rental units. A new top-floor skybar was added during renovation, bringing the tower to 26 storeys. The building is protected as a cultural landmark by Stockholm, preserving its external character while shops and restaurants occupy the ground floors.
