The W. H. Bickel Estate is a 2½-story stone mansion built between 1928 and 1930 on the outskirts of Parkersburg, West Virginia, exemplifying Tudor Revival architecture. Constructed of 4½-inch stone veneer quarried in Philadelphia and applied with a special mortise technique, the 1,800-square-foot main structure features a rectangular plan with an eastern wing, topped by tile roofing with hip and valley designs. The interior is exceptionally ornate, showcasing intricately inlaid walnut and maple geometric floors, five gas fireplaces with marble or stone hearths, wood mantels, partial wainscoting throughout, fifteen light French doors, a circular walnut and maple main staircase, and a third-floor ballroom extending twenty-eight feet. A matching stone portico with tongue-and-groove ceiling and Spanish tile porch marks the circular drive entrance. The landscaped grounds include a stone carriage house, entrance pillars, two elaborate stone fountains—one thirty feet in diameter capable of a fifty-foot spray—a hand-carved sandstone mill sculpture, and a pair of fighting lions carved from sandstone. The estate is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
