Amirthakadeswarar Temple at Sakkottai in Tamil Nadu's Thanjavur district is a Dravidian Hindu sanctuary dedicated to Shiva, worshiped here as Amirthakadeswarar and represented by the lingam, with his consort Parvati revered as Amirthavalli Amman. The presiding deity appears among the temples celebrated in the 7th-century Tamil Saiva canonical work Tevaram, composed by the Nayanmars saint poets, and holds special significance as a site associated with Sakya Nayanmar, one of Saivism's 63 venerated saints. Built as a masonry structure during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century, the temple was later expanded under the Thanjavur Nayaks. The complex features a three-tiered gopuram gateway tower, moats within and outside its surrounding walls, and numerous shrines, including notable sculptural works such as an emerald Lingothbhava image and an Ardhanarishvara figure depicted with his right leg relaxed. The temple maintains a rhythm of four daily rituals and celebrates three major yearly festivals: Maha Shivrathri, Masi Magam, and Margazhi Tiruvadhirai.
