The Padikasu Nathar Temple, also known as Swarnapureeswarar Temple, stands in Azhagaputhur village in Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu. Built in Dravidian architecture during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century with later expansions by Thanjavur Nayaks in the 16th century, the temple is dedicated to Shiva, worshiped as Padikasunathar and represented by the lingam, alongside his consort Parvati as Soundaranayagi. The structure features a distinctive three-storied gopuram gateway tower and comprises numerous shrines, halls, and two precincts, with the sanctuaries of Padikasunathar and Soundaranayagi being most prominent. Revered in the 7th-century Tamil Saiva canonical work the Tevaram and praised by 8th-century saint poet Sundarar, the temple is classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam. Associated with Pugalthunai Nayanar, one of the 63 Nayanmars, the temple maintains four daily rituals and observes two yearly festivals.
