Aria Campus, formerly known as CityCenter, is a 67-acre mixed-use complex on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada, designed by César Pelli and developed by MGM Mirage and Dubai World. Conceived by MGM president Jim Murren as an urban district reminiscent of Greenwich Village, the sprawling 18-million-square-foot complex comprises the Aria Resort and Casino (its central feature and only casino), the Vdara condo-hotel, the Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, Veer Towers condominiums, and The Shops at Crystals mall. Construction began in June 2006 under general contractor Perini Building Company and was completed in 2010 at $8.5 billion, making it the most expensive privately funded construction project in U.S. history. The project received LEED Gold certification for environmental design. Vdara opened first in December 2009, followed by other properties that month and Veer Towers in 2010.
