Crown Melbourne is a large integrated resort and casino complex on the south bank of the Yarra River in Melbourne, designed by architect Daryl Jackson. Originally opened in 1994 on the north bank, it relocated and reopened in its current location in 1997. The sprawling complex spans 510,000 square metres—equivalent to two city blocks—making it the largest casino complex in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the largest in the world. It comprises a casino, three hotels (Crown Towers, Crown Promenade, and Crown Metropol), and entertainment facilities. The complex has become a defining feature of Melbourne's Southbank precinct. Founded and initially operated by Lloyd Williams, it became the flagship property of the now-international Crown brand before being taken over by Publishing & Broadcasting Limited in 1999.
