Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright around 1908 and completed in 1909, the Edmund D. Brigham House in Glencoe, Illinois, represents a remarkable experiment in concrete domestic architecture. Built for Edmund D. Brigham, a freight agent for the Chicago & North Western Railway, the house was the only realized construction of Wright's "Fireproof House for $5000" design, originally published in the Ladies' Home Journal in 1907. The Prairie School composition features a central two-story section flanked by one-story wings, articulated by rows of casement windows and sturdy corner piers that emphasize the building's structural geometry. Though Wright would continue exploring concrete throughout his career, this Glencoe residence stands as the singular built manifestation of that specific modernist vision. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016.
