Gillette Stadium is a multi-purpose venue in Foxborough, Massachusetts, located 22 miles southwest of Boston and designed by Populous, opening in 2002. The 64,628-seat facility serves as the home of the New England Patriots (NFL) and New England Revolution (MLS), and replaced the adjacent Foxboro Stadium. Its first official event was an MLS match on May 11, 2002; the Patriots held their grand opening on September 9 that year, unveiling their Super Bowl XXXVI championship banner before a Monday Night Football game. Originally named CMGI Field, the stadium acquired its current name after Gillette purchased the naming rights following the dot-com collapse; despite Procter & Gamble's 2005 acquisition of Gillette, the stadium has retained the name through an agreement extending through the 2031 season. The facility includes 5,876 club seats and 82 luxury suites, and is served by MBTA Commuter Rail service from Boston and Providence during events.
