Designed by Rem Koolhaas, the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum was a 7,660-square-foot art space that operated within The Venetian resort on the Las Vegas Strip from 2001 to 2008. It resulted from a collaboration between the State Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, presenting exhibitions drawn from both institutions' collections. During its seven-year run, the museum hosted ten exhibitions featuring works by Van Gogh, Picasso, and Monet, attracting 1.1 million visitors—predominantly tourists. Despite this traffic, the venue struggled with limited community engagement and competition from nearby galleries, leading The Venetian to assume operations in 2007 before closing the museum the following year.
