The Joseph Chitwood House in Boise, Idaho is a two-story vernacular Queen Anne residence completed in 1892, its original T-shaped plan now irregular from successive small expansions. A beveled bay window projects prominently toward Denver Street, with a hip roof porch sheltering the entry to its left; front and side gables topped by tent roofs and hip roof additions extend toward the rear. Joseph R. Chitwood began construction in 1891, though financial difficulties marked the project's start—a lien was filed that year for unpaid building materials. Chitwood later prospered, co-owning a productive mine at Thunder Mountain with three of his brothers until his unexpected death in 1905 at age 46. The property also includes a small barn dating to 1912, originally 16 by 17 feet, which was later adapted for automobile storage and given a poured foundation. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.
