Mother Teresa Square, the second largest square in Tirana, Albania, was planned by Italian architect Gherardo Bosio and built between 1939 and 1941 during the Italian occupation in a Rationalist style. Originally named Victor Emmanuel III Square, it was renamed after Mother Teresa following the fall of communism and now serves as a pedestrian zone at the southern end of Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard. The square is anchored by significant cultural and educational institutions, including the University of Tirana, Polytechnic University, University of Arts, Archaeological Museum, and Centre of Albanological Studies. A fountain installed in 1980 and a statue of Mother Teresa (added after communism's collapse) were both removed following a 2014 restoration undertaken in preparation for Pope Francis's visit to Tirana. Today the square functions primarily as a venue for municipal activities and concerts.
