The Oper Frankfurt is a major German opera company based in Frankfurt am Main with a storied history of world premieres, including Franz Schreker's *Der ferne Klang* (1912), Frederick Delius's *Fennimore und Gerda* (1919), and Carl Orff's *Carmina Burana* (1937). The company gained international prominence during the Gielen era (1977–1987), when conductor Michael Gielen and stage directors such as Ruth Berghaus shaped its artistic direction. The original opera house, constructed in 1880, was destroyed during World War II and subsequently rebuilt as a concert hall, the Alte Oper. The present opera house, completed in 1963, shares its building with a drama stage and houses the Frankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester. The Bockenheimer Depot, a converted tram depot, now serves as a contemporary and Baroque opera venue. Part of the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt, the company has received multiple "Opera House of the Year" awards from *Opernwelt* (2020, 2022, 2023) and was named "Opera Company of the Year" at the 2013 International Opera Awards.
