The Plains Theatre, located on Second Street in Rushville, Nebraska, is a one-part commercial block building constructed in 1914 by Dave Gourley, a local entrepreneur who brought electricity to the town. Originally called Gourley's Opera House, the structure has also been known as the Star Theatre and S & S Theatre. Measuring approximately 50 by 80 feet, it features a characteristic false front and tin roof typical of early twentieth-century commercial architecture. As one of the first buildings in Rushville to be equipped with electricity, it served as an important entertainment venue for the community. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988.
