The Queen Elizabeth Hall, a brutalist concert venue on London's South Bank in the London Borough of Lambeth, opened in 1967 with a performance conducted by composer Benjamin Britten. Built as part of the Southbank Centre arts complex, it was constructed alongside the smaller Purcell Room and stands near the Royal Festival Hall (built for the 1951 Festival of Britain) and the Hayward Gallery (opened 1968). The hall hosts classical, jazz, and avant-garde music, as well as talks and dance performances.
