The Purcell Room is a 370-seat concert hall within London's Southbank Centre, named after the 17th-century English composer Henry Purcell. Built simultaneously with the adjacent Queen Elizabeth Hall, it exemplifies Brutalist architecture designed by Hubert Bennett and his team at the Greater London Council's architects department, alongside Jack Whittle, F.G West, and Geoffrey Horsefall. The venue prioritizes interior space over external ornamentation, making its position within the broader cultural complex deliberately understated. As the smallest of three Southbank performance spaces—the others being the Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall—the Purcell Room has hosted chamber music, jazz, mime, and poetry recitals. Following major renovations that began in 2015, it reopened in 2018.
