Saint Gregory of Nyssa Church in Trabzon was a Byzantine structure built in the late thirteenth century—around 1280–1297—reportedly by the wife of John III, Emperor of Trabzon, as both a church and monastery. Dedicated to the fourth-century Christian bishop and saint Gregory of Nyssa, it served the city continuously through the medieval period and beyond. After 1665, it was elevated to cathedral status for Trabzon. The structure was substantially rebuilt in 1863 by the Metropolitan Constantius. Following the Greco-Turkish population exchange after 1922, the building fell into disuse, and in 1930 it was demolished to make way for the City Club.
