Located in Minato, Tokyo, the Tokyo Japan Temple is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' first temple built in Asia, dedicated in 1980. Its modern design drew inspiration from Japanese architecture and culture, creating a compact style that would later serve as a model for other urban temples, including those in Hong Kong and Manhattan. The temple was constructed on the site of a former mission home, with groundbreaking occurring in October 1980.
