Trausnitz Castle, a medieval fortress perched above Landshut in Bavaria, was founded in 1204 by Duke Ludwig I. From 1255 onward, it served as the ducal residence of the Wittelsbach dynasty, governing Lower Bavaria until 1503, and subsequently functioned as the seat of Bavaria's hereditary rulers. Though its origins are medieval, the castle exhibits Renaissance architectural elements, reflecting modifications and embellishments made during its centuries as a seat of power.
