The United States Post Office in Boone, North Carolina, is a Colonial Revival stone building completed in 1938 as part of the New Deal's Works Progress Administration. Designed by Louis A. Simon of the Office of the Supervising Architect, the steel-framed structure sits on a raised native stone foundation and comprises a five-bay by two-bay main block with a three-bay service block. Distinguishing features include Doric order pilasters framing the entry and an octagonal lantern topped with paired Tuscan order columns that crowns the roof ridge. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996, the building was purchased by the Town of Boone in 2009 following community efforts to prevent its sale, and subsequently underwent careful restoration through 2013 that preserved its original native stone while removing hazardous materials.
