Built in 1936 at 430 South Spring Street in downtown Burlington, North Carolina, this red brick post office merges Classical Revival and Art Deco design. Designed by R. Stanley Brown under the direction of Louis A. Simon, head of the Office of the Supervising Architect, the building exemplifies the federal architecture of the Depression era. Its interior features two WPA-era wall murals by artist Arthur L. Bairnsfather depicting Burlington's history as a textile manufacturing center. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988, it remains a landmark in the Downtown Burlington Historic District.
