Rising 199 meters above downtown Montreal, 1250 René-Lévesque is a 47-story postmodern skyscraper designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates and completed in 1992. Originally built as the IBM-Marathon Tower to consolidate IBM's North American operations and relocate 1,000 employees, the tower was constructed between 1988 and 1992 with a $250 million investment. Located in Ville-Marie, the building marks a visual boundary between the commercial downtown core and the historically residential west side—a concept the architects adapted from their Westend Tower in Frankfurt. Strategically positioned adjacent to Bell Centre and Windsor Station, the tower connects directly to the Bonaventure metro station and Montreal's Underground City, anchoring a vital nexus of urban transit and commerce.
