On Main Street in Ellendale, North Dakota, the three-story Ellendale Opera House Block stands as a notable example of Chicago School architecture. Built in 1908 and opened in 1909, the brick structure was designed by George Issenhuth. The auditorium floor accommodated theatrical performances and shows, while offices occupied the second story. The building gained significance within its community as a survivor of the fires that had diminished the town's older architectural heritage. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
