The Ramsdell Theatre in downtown Manistee, Michigan, is a historic opera house and playhouse designed by architect Solon Spencer Beman and completed in 1902. Financed by local businessman and politician Thomas Jefferson Ramsdell, the building replaced two earlier opera houses that had been destroyed by fire in 1882 and 1900. Beyond theatrical productions, the venue later served as a movie theater and holds significance in American theatrical history as the venue where James Earl Jones began his acting career, working as both an actor and stage manager.
