Located 60 kilometers from Tirunelveli in the village of Papanasam, Tamil Nadu, the Papanasanathar Temple is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Shiva, worshipped here as Papanasanathar alongside his consort Parvathi, venerated as Ulagammai. Built in the Dravidian architectural style, the temple comprises three precincts enclosed by a granite wall and features a distinctive seven-tiered gateway tower. Originally constructed by Chandrakula Pandya, the temple received substantial additions during the sixteenth century from Vijayanagar and Nayak rulers, whose artistic contributions are evident in the temple's sculptural decoration. The site maintains an active ritual life, hosting six daily ceremonies and three annual festivals, with Brahmotsavam and Thaipoosam being the most significant celebrations.
