Pasupateeswarar Temple in Karur is a Hindu temple of Dravidian architecture and one of the seven sacred Sivastalams. The temple has a documented history stretching to at least the early eleventh century, when inscriptions record that King Rajendra Chola (1012–54 CE) donated land to its maintenance. The site holds significance in the religious geography of the region—the city itself was known as Karuvoor during the saint Sambandar's visit—and attracted sustained patronage from successive dynasties, including the Kongu Cholas, Kongu Pandyas, and later the Vijayanagar rulers.
